Patient Participation Group

PPGs have an increasingly important role to play in helping to give patients a say in the way services are delivered to best meet the needs of the community, how?

  • Advising the practice on the patient perspective
  • Communicating with the wider patient body accurately and honestly
  • Organising health promotion
  • Influence the practice or wider NHS to improve commissioning

Come and join our PPG – send your GP an email if you would be interested in helping.

Patient Participation Group Successfully Re-Launched

The Practice’s Patient Participation Group was very successfully re-launched in March this year after a long ‘vacation’ due to COVID. We had a rush of people wanting to join us, resulting in us welcoming six new members who, together with long-standing members, are all committed and eager to support the Practices.

In July, we are re-starting our once-a-month Meet and Greet sessions – aiming to hold these in both Market Harborough and Bosworth surgery waiting areas. We have a short questionnaire which changes from time to time to provide useful up-to-the-minute information on patients’ experiences and views, but sometimes the most valuable aspect of this is that we can be a listening ear to those who need to chat – and, before you know it, it’s time for your appointment!

Our poster project, Healthy Eating, is also being revived, both at Market Harborough and Bosworth, this time focusing on general hygiene. The colourful posters have been welcomed for their bright colours and healthy messages. This is a community project, involving students locally, who design themed posters which are then entered in our competition, with prizes for selected entries which are then, with other entries, exhibited in our waiting areas.

These activities are just for starters! We have other ideas in the pipeline! However, it is important that we get to know and understand how the Practice/PCN works and that our knowledge is up to date. To this end, we recently visited the Husbands Bosworth practice on an information gathering exercise. We had a great evening, with a chance to chat to staff and new members alike. Thanks go to the doctors who generously supplied some wine (0% of course!) which was much appreciated. In August, we have the second ‘behind the scenes’ tour – at the Market Harborough Medical Centre.

I look forward to being able to tell you more of our activities in the next newsletter!
