Screening programmes

  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening

University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) was one of the first six pioneer institutions in the country to implement screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm.

  • Antenatal screening (tests during pregnancy)

You’ll be offered some screening tests during pregnancy to try to find any health conditions that could affect you or your baby. The tests can help you make choices about further tests and care or treatment during your pregnancy or after your baby is born. All screening tests offered by the NHS are free.

  • Bowel cancer screening

Bowel cancer is a common type of cancer in both men and women. About 1 in 20 people will get it during their lifetime. Screening can help detect bowel cancer at an early stage, when it’s easier to treat.

  • Cervical screening

What cervical screening is and why it’s important.

  • Diabetic eye screening

Diabetic eye screening is a test to check for eye problems caused by diabetes, which can cause sight loss if not found early.
